Regulation is all about making sure your piano responds correctly to your touch. It is very complex and rather time consuming. There are many regulation ‘points’ inside your piano action and keys which, from time to time, will need adjustment and lubrication. In general, it is considered necessary to thoroughly regulate your piano every 5 years or so. Your tuner/technician should check each year and do the little things required so that your instrument remains in good condition.
You may notice that your piano is not responding as it should or doesn’t ‘feel’ quite right when you play. You might also feel as if there’s a lack of power in the tone. Perhaps also you can’t get the required dynamics from the instrument or when you try to play softly, there is very little control.
These issues are red flags and mean that your piano needs to be correctly regulated.
